After a break in 2004,
 the 2005 Cherry Festival will take place
the 11 and 12th june
with the Cherry Ball and the "Greedy discovery path"
and the 19th june
with meal and musical animation !






ach year on the third weekend of June, the Alsace Cherry Capital of Westhoffen, lying 16 miles west of Strasbourg, organises a grand Cherry Festival. Over 7000 fruit trees, including 5000 cherry trees, grow on the many sunny slopes surrounding the village.




All varieties are represented, from early to late-fruiting species,
with pride of place going to the famous Noire de Westhoffen
whose gustative and keeping qualities are second to none.
This variety is used in canned fruit, in the distillation of kirsch
and of course in the famous Bettelmann (cheery cake) of Westhoffen.

he first Cherry Festival dates back to 1960, but it is really in the years since 1980, under the impetus of the Sports and Leisure Association bringing together all the dynamic elements in the village, that it has joined the select band of feasts and festivals in Alsace. In 1996 it won the coveted Cèdre d'Or ("Golden Cedar") trophy awarded for the best folklore festival in the region.




nternational folklore, music, dance and regional gastronomy are the main ingredients of a festival which each year attracts 10,000 persons. The villagers are already hard at work getting ready to welcome again visitors to this year's edition, and to introduce them to our charming village - a veritable open air museum. The entire population is intensely proud of the village and its traditions, its beautiful half-timbered houses, and the infectious good humour and warm hospitality so characteristic of Alsace.
